Graphic Design: BIGNESS Caribana 2009
June 7th, 2009

One of our on going clients Maxamus Entertainment Inc. called on us once more. For there 2009 Caribana even we had to make Big Boi of Outkast takeover the city of Toronto before he even gets there. After the jump you can see the process that made this design the master piece it is.

The image above was the source of the photo for artist big boi. At first I was skeptical about only using the bare image of Big Boi - until I came across this clean shot of Toronto’s skyline.

Over the course of designing the advert for the 2009 Caribana event i was tempted to settle with results i came across Google images. It was difficult to find photos that would capture the core essence of Toronto’s skyline as well as fit the vertical design of the CN tower in Toronto? As a result, I purchased this piece from iStock photo.

One of my clients maindesign points was to add the color purple in the piece. Big Boi’s company is called Purple Ribbon Allstars so it made sense. Inspired by the artist Chuck Anderson I wanted some sort of glowing effect. I decided to use the microphone stand as a way to work around the glow as you can see.

As a marketing strategy one of my clients requested that the advert was infused with the color purple (hence, Big Boi’s company is called Purple Ribbon Allstars). I drew my inspiration for this piece from artist Chuck Anderson and I decided to use the microphone stand as the focal point in order highlight the purple spiral glow swirl down the mic stand.

Upon completion of the project, I sent the final draft over to InDesign for typography. Here is the final cut of this year’s BIGNESS Caribana event brought to you by Maxamus entertainment.
